Reyane & Pascal Bouley, Volnay 1er Cru Champans, 2012
Champans is one of Volnay's grandest Premier Crus, a south-facing slope of limestone and clay famous for giving Pinot Noir both silk and structure. The Bouley family has farmed in Volnay for six generations, working a small patch of Champans among their parcels, and their reds are classically built. This 2012 comes from a small but high-quality Burgundy vintage that produced concentrated, age-worthy reds. Now well over a decade old, it's moving into a mature, savory window; decant and enjoy over the next few years.
