Terah, Aligote, 2024
Aligoté in California is rare; good Aligoté in California is rarer still. Terah Bajjalieh, the Bay Area-based winemaker behind Terah Wine Co., found hers at Siletto Family Vineyards in San Benito County — gravelly, well-drained, CCOF-certified organic. Bajjalieh founded the label in 2020 (120 cases in a friend's garage) and now makes around 1,500 cases of minimal-intervention wines from organic and biodynamic growers across California — and is among the most exciting young voices in the state. The Aligoté is fermented in barrel and aged ten months on its lees, unfined and unfiltered. Bright, salty, and food-friendly in the way Aligoté is supposed to be — only now from California, with the texture lees-aging brings.
