Clos de la Roilette (Coudert), Fleurie Vendange Tardive, 2014 (1.5L)
A magnum of one of Beaujolais' most serious Gamays: Clos de la Roilette's Cuvee Tardive, which, despite the name, is a dry, age-worthy Fleurie from the oldest vines, not a late-harvest sweet wine. Alain Coudert's clay-and-manganese soils give the wine real grip and Pinot-like depth, and the large format means this 2014 is aging slowly and gracefully. Now in a lovely mature spot, it's a showpiece for the table. Decant before serving.
