Clos de la Roilette (Coudert), Fleurie Vendange Tardive, 2015
Clos de la Roilette is a Flatiron-favorite Fleurie, and the Cuvee Tardive (here labeled Vendange Tardive) is its top, age-worthy bottling. Fernand Coudert rescued the estate in 1967 and his son Alain has run the cellar since the 1980s. The clos sits on a rare clay-rich seam that produces a fuller, more structured wine than granite-based Fleurie, closer to Moulin-a-Vent. The Tardive comes from roughly 80-year-old vines and is built to be enjoyed later. The 2015 was a warm, ripe, concentrated vintage, giving a richer bottle that is drinking well now with room to keep.
