Clos Rougeard, near Chace in Saumur-Champigny, made age-worthy Cabernet Franc its calling card decades before the region was cool, fermenting in old cement vats and aging in barrel. Le Clos is the estate's blended Cabernet Franc cuvée, drawn from clay-limestone plots in Saumur-Champigny. The 2011 was a more moderate, earlier-drinking vintage, so this is approachable and pretty now rather than one for long aging. A rare opportunity to drink Loire history at its sweet spot.
