Domaine des Remizieres, Hermitage Cuvee Emilie, 2009
Cuvée Emilie is the top Hermitage from Domaine des Remizières, the three-generation Desmeure family estate in Mercurol — the bottling debuted in 1995, named for Philippe Desmeure's daughter Emilie, who runs the winemaking today. It comes from the great Hermitage hill and is aged in new oak, the estate's most serious expression of Syrah. This is the 2009, a famously ripe, sun-drenched Northern Rhône vintage that gave wines of real opulence and power. Now well into maturity, it's a richer, more generous counterpart to the more savory 2007 — the fruit is still plush, with secondary complexity layering in. Decant it well, serve in large glasses, and pair it with something hearty. Drinking beautifully now and holding.
