Enfield Wine Co., Syrah Yorkville Highlands, 2015

For this bottling, Enfield's John Lockwood looks north of Napa to the Yorkville Highlands, a cool, elevated corner of Mendocino County that produces Syrah of bright acidity and savory snap. The wine is built in the same northern-Rhone-leaning spirit as Lockwood's Coombsville Syrah: peppery, structured, and food-friendly rather than rich and sweet. The 2015 vintage was small and concentrated, giving intensity without losing freshness. Decant ahead and serve at cool room temperature.
