Ferrando, Carema Etichetta Bianca, 2013
Ferrando is the legendary grower of Carema, the dramatic alpine appellation where Nebbiolo grows on steep terraced slopes near the Aosta Valley. The altitude gives these wines their hallmark high-toned, almost ethereal elegance, more delicate than Barolo but built for the long haul. The Etichetta Bianca (white label) is the annual bottling, aged in a mix of large and small barrels. The 2013 was a cool, classic vintage that produced especially fragrant, high-acid, finely structured wines; it's just entering its mature stride and will keep evolving.
