Trevor Jones, Barossa Valley Tawny, NV (375ml)

Australia has its own proud tawny tradition, and Trevor Jones makes a lovely one in the Barossa Valley. Built mostly from shiraz rather than Portuguese grapes, this fortified wine is aged oxidatively in cask the way a tawny should be, slowly turning nutty, sweet and golden-brown. The result is all caramel, candied fruit and toasted nuts, mellow and warming. There's no sediment and no decanting needed; just serve it lightly chilled or at cool room temperature in small pours. The half-bottle is perfect for an after-dinner glass or two.
