Arnot-Roberts, Syrah Que Syrah Vineyard, 2018
Que Syrah, named for the play on que sera sera, is the oldest Syrah planting on the Sonoma Coast, set on a forested coastal ridgetop above Occidental at 850 feet, about three miles from the Pacific. Arnot-Roberts has farmed it since 2013, and the long, cool growing season here gives a spicy, aromatic style miles from the jammy California stereotype. The 2018 is fermented whole-cluster, which adds stemmy backbone and freshness, and it's just 12.7% alcohol. Brilliant fuchsia color, vibrant briary fruit, real lift. A distinctive, peppery cool-climate Syrah from a benchmark old-vine site.
