Bedrock Wine Company, Papera Ranch Heritage Wine, 2019
Papera Ranch is a survivor. This old field blend in the Russian River Valley was planted in 1934 by Charlie Papera and nearly lost during the post-Sideways rush to rip out old vines and plant Pinot Noir. Bedrock's parcel is roughly 60% Zinfandel and 40% Carignane, with a few other heritage odds and ends, all co-fermented as a field blend. Made with native yeast and restrained oak, it keeps the juicy, generous spirit of old Russian River Zinfandel while staying lively and food-friendly. Drink it over the next several years.
