Bedrock Wine Company, Sonoma County Nervo Ranch Heritage, 2019
Nervo Ranch clings to a steep 25-to-35-degree slope of decomposed shale just outside Geyserville in the Alexander Valley, with its oldest vines dating to 1896. It was once the source for the old Nervo Winery's "California Burgundy," and that patchwork heritage survives in the bottle: a Zinfandel-led field blend co-fermented with Petite Sirah, Negrette, Carignan, Grenache, Trousseau Noir, and a long tail of red and white rarities. Bedrock works it with native yeast and minimal oak, and the shale and altitude give it an elegant, lifted feel rather than sheer weight. Distinctive and graceful, with real old-vine complexity.
