Dirty and Rowdy, Brousseau Blanc, 2020
Dirty and Rowdy built a cult following on small-batch, low-intervention California wines made from grapes that fall outside the Cabernet-and-Chardonnay script - and this white from Brousseau Vineyard is a perfect example. Founded in 2010 by Hardy Wallace and Matt Richardson, the winery champions Mourvedre and Semillon above all. The Brousseau site sits at 1,700 feet in the Chalone AVA on a mix of limestone, granite and volcanic soils, fermented whole-cluster and raised in neutral oak, then bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Production is tiny. A distinctive, textural white for the natural-curious.
