Fine Disregard, Carignan Mule Plane, 2019
The Mule Plane Vineyard sits in the sandy Tokay soils near the Mokelumne River in Lodi, planted with head-trained, own-rooted Carignan way back in the late 1920s ā the vineyard named for the mule-drawn plane that leveled the ground before planting. Fine Disregard, the minimalist two-person operation behind it, ferments this whole-cluster and ages it sur lie in neutral barrels, bottling it unfined and unfiltered. The result is a low-alcohol, cool-toned old-vine Carignan full of spice and lift. Serve with a slight chill.
