Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, Hermitage Blanc, 2021
The Chave family name on a more accessible Hermitage. J.L. Chave Selections is the négociant arm of Jean-Louis Chave's operation — distinct from the legendary estate wines, made under the same family direction but drawn largely from purchased fruit and contracted parcels. The Hermitage Blanc bottling (often labeled "Blanche") sources mainly from the lieu-dit Maison Blanche atop the hill, blending Marsanne and Roussanne and aging two years in used barrels. The 2021 was a cool, classical Northern Rhône vintage — the kind of year that flatters white Hermitage, giving it tension and minerality alongside the variety's signature richness. Expect quince, honeyed citrus, buttered almond, and a powdered-stone finish. Drinking beautifully young but built for serious cellaring.
