Domaine Faiveley, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges, 2022
Nuits' most coveted 1er Cru, currently in the formal Grand Cru promotion process with INAO. Les Saint-Georges sits at the southern end of the appellation and has long been considered grand-cru-quality in everything but title — its bid for official promotion has been working its way through the system for roughly a decade. Faiveley, now under seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley with winemaker Jérôme Flous, owns a tiny 0.23-hectare slice with vines planted in 1933 and 1974, raised in around 50% new oak. 2022 was a warm but balanced Burgundy vintage that delivered ripe fruit alongside structural backbone. This is a young, ageworthy, serious wine — open in a decade-plus, or decant aggressively now.
