Noel Ramonet, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Rouge “Boudriotte”, 2010
A red from Burgundy's white wine capital, and a rare one at that. Ramonet is best known as a legendary white-wine domaine, but La Boudriotte is one of the very few Chassagne 1er Crus that also grows Pinot Noir, and the family farms just over a hectare of reds total. Old vines and low yields are the house creed, and these reds get the same meticulous touch as the famous whites, raised in about a third new oak. The 2010 was a classic, structured Burgundy vintage, and this bottle has had time to round out; it's a mature wine from a private collection, drinking well now. A connoisseur's curiosity from one of the Cote de Beaune's greatest names.
