Renato Corino, Barolo Arborina, 2010
Renato Corino broke off from his brother Giuliano in 2005 to start his own La Morra estate, taking his share of the family's vineyards with him. Arborina is one of La Morra's most celebrated crus, sandy and elegant, prized for perfumed, silken Nebbiolo. Renato's winemaking is modern-classical: fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then aging in French oak barriques with about 30 percent new wood each year. No filtration, no fining, low sulfur. The 2010 vintage is one of the great modern Piedmont years, and at fifteen years this Arborina is entering its drinking window with another decade-plus of life ahead. A polished, perfumed expression of La Morra's most floral cru, built to age but already singing.
